WHAT DOES OUR BEST PROGRAMME LOOK LIKE?
Our introductory workshop runs for 11 weeks and teaches children of all ages the basic understanding of Social & Emotional Skills. The learning focuses around the development of the brain from birth to present day, emphasising how each unique part creates our thoughts, our feelings and our behaviour.
Teaching classes of children in both Primary and Secondary schools, Social & Emotional Skills. Focusing in all areas of mental health and wellbeing, from self-awareness to emotional intelligence and concentrating on growth vs fixed mindset and resilience as part of their PHSE education.
By motivating children through learning these important life skills through Sport, Art & Drama they can begin to understand their behaviour and therefore take responsibility for their actions.
Intervention groups enable us to focus on individual behaviours that have been brought to the attention of the teacher over a period of time. This behaviour may disturb a class with outbursts of anger and lack of emotional control, through difficult home lives and social interaction. Some may have low resilience and find distracting their peers more rewarding. There may be learning behaviours of dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia, which over time has affected their confidence and self-worth. There may be areas of frustration through ADD, ADHD or ASD.
Working with the children on their personal challenges and future targets through therapeutic activities, allows them to explore their thoughts, their feelings and their actions at a more personal level. This not only builds self-esteem but gives them strategies to overcome their difficulties.
Creating an environment outside of school hours to put into practice what they have learnt within the classroom, taught through sport, art and drama.
Focusing on termly projects, for example: ‘All about me and Communication’, ‘Teamwork and Friendship skills’ & ‘Resilience and Emotional Control’.
Each after school club runs for up to one and a half hours and lasts for 11 weeks. This is paid for by parents or by Pupil Premium support. The after school club provides juice and a snack.
The before school club runs for an hour and a quarter and provides a full sit down breakfast of eggs, toast, cereal and fruit juice. Again, the club is paid for by parents or Pupil Premium support.
BEST creates fun and interactive holiday programmes for all age groups. We concentrate on a child’s self esteem and building their confidence to enable them to be able to deal with all of life’s challenges.
We focus on creating a growth mindset, learning how to deal with teasing and conflict and how to regulate their emotions. The children learn how to be a good friend through group activities and teamwork. During group discussions, we encourage the children to talk about any issues they might have or want to share in a safe and secure environment.
We run an hour and a quarter programme for Y7 – Y9 at an independent venue. We focus on issues that are current in today’s young people such as social media, body awareness and relationships. We develop self esteem and confidence through games, art activities and group and individual discussion.
